55+ Child sex trafficking in Canada - and how to stop it

Vancouver is a global tourism destination and there is active recruitment in the sex industry for youth and children locally, which most of us are unaware of. There has been a dramatic increase in child exploitation along with the increase and consumption of online child sexual abuse material.

Speaker, Cathy Peters raises awareness about the issue with politicians, police, and the public. She has made 750 presentations over the past ten years and has had many interviews with the media. She received the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for her anti-human trafficking advocacy work.

She will focus on what parents and grandparents can do to protect children from exploitation, presenting specific strategies that empower us to educate and guide our families.

Cathy grew up at West Vancouver Baptist and, currently attends Valley Church in Lynn Valley. She is particularly keen to alert churches to the dangers that are – yes – even in our own neighbourhood.

Cathy says “Be Amazing: Learn about the issue; Share it with others; Alert your politicians.”
