Acts 11: 1-18
Following the Spirit into New Places

Following the Spirit into New Places

The book of Acts tells the story of Peter and Cornelius twice. (Chapters 10 and 11)

The Bible was written in a time when most people could not read, in an oral culture, strategic repetition was not only acceptable - it was highly valued. We need to pay attention to the lessons it gives.

Two major lessons:

  1. The Gospel breaks down barriers and unites us (Pastor Bob Bahr - 2 weeks ago)
  2. Acts teaches us that God frequently leads his people into "new Places", and we must learn to follow Him well.

This is a passage is about change.

  • Change can be hard
  • God's path is often quite different from our plans
  • God  is patient and gracious
  • When God calls he makes the path plain for those who are willing
  • God's path isn't always easy
  • God's Spirit is with us all the way

What do we learn?

  • We need to practice... prayer
  • We need to pay attention ... circumstances
  • We need to travel in good company
  • We need guidance from God's Word
