The Limping Leading Father

The Limping Leading Father

Outline

  1. A Father who failed to stand before his family
    • Genesis 32:24 - So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak
    • Romans 7:19 - For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do , this I keep on doing
    • Romans 7:24 - What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?
    • Genesis 32:22 - That night Jacob go up and took his two wives, his two female servants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok
  2. The Father Broken Before God
    • How can a man prevail when wrestling with God?
    • Near dawn, the man "touched the socket of Jacob's hop so that his hip was wrenched" (Genesis 32:25)
    • For Jacob, "have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome" does not mean he was stronger than God. It means he had finally, in the presence of God, obtained the very thing his whole life had been longing for: the blessing.
