Message from Pastor KenHi everyone! Wow, it’s Thursday already! And Thursday, May 23, with June crouching just around the corner. I can’t believe how fast the days are flying by. I’m not sure if that means we’re having fun, but at the very least, I’m not bored. Hopefully, your days are filled with good things—and not boring—too. Sometime back in January (which seems like just moments ago), Tracey told me I needed to put some “away” days on the calendar. Apparently, I’m not allowed to ignore these and to let them accumulate all year, since I can’t just go away for the month of December! So, I pulled out my proverbial dart-board and threw a dart at spring, and it landed on the May 25 weekend. It seemed far away at the time. Now it has crept up, and this evening Diane and I are packing our bags for a couple evenings in the woods. We probably should have started a week ago, but … well, the days are flying by. It will seem strange not to be here with you all on Sunday. But everyone keeps telling me it’s a good thing to step away and refresh once in a while, and I think they’re right. We’ll certainly be thinking about WVBC on Sunday morning as we read, and pray, and sip coffee under the trees. We know you’ll have a wonderful time of worship this week. Matt Leonard will be back to preach in my place. He’s carrying on the series in the book of Proverbs, this week looking into chapter 7. I look forward to watching the video once we’re back into cell range again. With the end of May approaching, I’m also conscious that we’re coming up on Tracey’s last week in the office. That, of course, is a very sad thing for us all, and it’s coming up far faster than I would like. I’m sure there will be a long queue of people lining up to express their love and to wish her well this Sunday. Tracey has forbidden us from making a big scene during this week’s service. But I’ll keep taking every opportunity to say, over and over, how much I have appreciated working with her in the office these past months, how much we will all miss her cheerful and gracious and wise presence, and how excited we are for her as she launches into new adventures this June. Well, I’d better close this off and get going. My bag isn’t going to pack itself. Have a wonderful weekend, and we’ll see you next week. In the meantime, isn’t it great to know that God is with us wherever we are, binding us together in the Spirit and leading us on the journey. |
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the death of mother, daughter & sister, Diane Michelle Gibbs. Diane passed away on May 1, 2024. She spent many years on the North Shore before relocating to Surrey. Diane was known for her love for art and drawing and her continuously positive outlook in the midst of so many varied circumstances.
Diane is survived by her children, Tyler and Carley, her mother Joan, and her siblings Karen and Kevin. A service was held in the Fireside Room at West Vancouver Baptist on Monday, May 12.
