It seems late this year, but as spring finally unfolds here on the North Shore we can see all kinds of wonderful signs of God’s faithfulness and favour on the world he has made. Blossoms bursting forth on the trees, bulbs breaking through the soil, gardens getting planted, and warmer breezes remind us that God still takes care of us.
So, spring is a perfect time to be diving deep into what Acts means when it says,
‘I see that the Lord is always with me.
I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
No wonder my heart is glad, and my tongue shouts his praises!
My body rests in hope.
For you will not leave my soul among the dead
or allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.
You have shown me the way of life,
and you will fill me with the joy of your presence.’”
Acts 2:25-28 NLT
Following the high point of Easter, spring introduces us to the great church celebrations of Jesus’ Lordship in His Ascension, and of the birth of His Church, at the outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost. Although the actual celebration of Pentecost takes place on May 28 I will reflect on its significance in our lives this Sunday. Please take time to read Acts 2:1-13.
In this passage, the Spirit’s presence is marked by Wind, Fire, and Tongues. What is the significance of these three manifestations of God’s presence and blessing? It is my prayer that during this spring season, we all might experience the renewal of our personal spiritual lives.
Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God has broken the power of winter and brought renewal and rebirth to all who believe in Him. Would you join me in praying: “Come Holy Spirit Come.”
I look forward to seeing each of you this Sunday. If you can’t join us in person you can join us online. May the Living Spirit fill you with the love and presence of Jesus.
Mark your calendars for these great events coming up.
